I’ve been wanting to travel to Antique from the moment I actually saw their vacation promotional video Krruuhhaay! Katahum kang Antique by Dante Beriong on Youtube. I recently finally experienced Old-fashioned and for me, it is one of the most beautiful areas I have visited within the Philippines.
Miagao Church – Chapel of Santo Tomas de Villanueva
It has been early morning when we still left Days Hotel with Iloilo to meet other Old-fashioned Heritage Tour people at the UP Visayas University. Together with fellow Pinoy Journey Bloggers and UP Visayas students, we left the actual campus at around 7am and headed to the southern part of Iloilo.
San Joaquin Cemetery
Before heading to Antique, we visited two heritage sites inside Iloilo – the Miagao Church and also the San Joaquin Cemetery. Miagao Church is additionally popularly known as the Religious organization of Santo Tomas de Villanueva, on the list of iconic structures you should not miss while heading to Antique for those travelling from Iloilo.
Inside San Joaquin Cemetery Chapel
After the short stop in Miagao Community center, we also visited the San Joaquin Cemetery and the San Joaquin Religious organization. The San Joaquin Cemetery is situated along the main road in the town of San Joaquin. The construction of San Joaquin Cemetery was commenced by the last Augustinian parish preacher of the town named Fray Mariano Vamba in 1892. A statue of Jesus with his arms outstretched appears on top of a baroque fashion gate, and on them of Christ, 2 columns with perfect little angels figures are positiioned as guards.
Siraan Scorching Spring
In addition, sculpted brains of two cherubs plus a skull representing dying marks the entrance in the cemetery. Take thirty stone steps immediately after entering the gateway and you will be greeted because of the Baroque designed mortuary chapel looking at the center. It was a real beautiful chapel.
We likewise went to the San Joaquin Community center but there was a great undergoing construction whenever we visited the place. This specific Roman Catholic parish was built in 1869 through Spanish priest Reverend Tomas Santaren. The nation’s Historical Institute stated the church to be a National Cultural Value.
Buri Products of Antique
After browsing San Joaquin heritage sites, all of us headed to our initially Antique destination – town of Anini-y. Our initially stop was at this Siraan Hot Spring. That it was already raining after we arrived at the resort but it really did not stop us all appreciating the beauty of the accommodation and the mistical Nogas Island which we can view from afar.
From Siraan Hot Springtime, we headed in order to San Juan Nepomuceno Church of Anini-y. This church is the last standing colonial church in the province of Antique. Built in 1600’ersus, this towering edifice was made from reefs stones. At the back of the actual church, a beautiful lighthouse can be found with a rewarding view of Nogas Island.
Lechon Kawali at Melindas Restaurant
Our next stop was a student in Melinda’s restaurant for all our Brunch. The bistro was just simple, this reminds me of my favorite carinderia back in my senior high school days but the foodstuff in this restaurant are exceptionally good!! We were all reminded to consume light since we all still have our lunch break in Tibiao but I suppose nobody listened LOL, we all enjoyed the dinuguan, lechon kawali and their super delectable Chopsuey (chinese mixed fresh vegetables).
After chorus of burps! we proceeded to Brgy. Diclum for our Buri Weaving activity. Buri weaving is the method to obtain livelihood of women in this Barangay. Students from UP Visayas were devided in several teams and they also were tasked to produce a small buri bag in their immersion.

This type of activity not only help students understand the value of livelihood packages, it also help the locals by showcasing their particular talents and produce sales from finish off products they are selling as souvenirs. Buri Weaving is not an easy task, it involves persistence and skills to make art pieces. To be able to give rise to the local community, i purchased several pieces included in my pasalubong shopping (24 buri wallets to be exact).
From the town of Anini-y, we headed to the capital of scotland – Hamtic to visit the Malandog Historic Marker and the Common Fullon Shrine. The Malandog Marker is believed to be the original Attaining site of the 1st Malayan settlers in 1100 A.D. while the General Fullon Shrine located in top of the municipal corridor of Hamtic, Antique had been built to honor the particular commander during the revolution against the Spanish east rule in the island of Panay.
We also a quick stop at the particular Patnongon Church. Patnongon is one of a few places where the Augustinians designed a church and also convento of stone and mortar. Patnongon Church was destroyed during the World War II inside 1941-1945.
Patadyong Weaving in Antique
Our next halt was at Bugasong Loom Weaver’s Association with Barangay Bagtason to checkout this Patadyong Weaving. We were all blessed to witness the neighborhood weavers making this local sheet called patadyong. Patadyong is the Visayan sort of Malong. This hand weaved cloth is often utilised as skirt and just like Malong, this is a very useful item of clothing. Patadyong is being threatened with extinction but with aid from Bugasong Loom Weaver’s Association, locals are still familiar in the process of thus, making this multi-colored textile.

After our cultural captivation, we headed on the town of Tibiao for an adventure packed activity – the Lambaklad Fishing. Lambaklad fishing is usually a local way of finding fish utilizing a massive bamboo raft. It was already late within the afternoon when we became a member of a group of local fisherman in their Lambaklad fishing.
Imagine a large raft with pretty much 20 fishing crew combining their hard work in hauling a fisher’s net against the tough waves just 20-30 feets away from the coast of Tibiao. The massive waves are scary but after seeing the huge hook, it created a whole different story.
Fishing with neighborhood community
Lambaklad fishing is part of the actual Tibiao Adventure package presented and conceptualized by a local tourism moving service and proprietor Flord Nicson Calawag regarding Katahum Tours. To help the actual coastal community and gives a unique activities to tourists, Flord Calawag integrated this kind of fishing activity in their tour package.

Our species of fish spa experience seemed to be followed by a dinner subsidized by Tibiao Fish Club then we headed for the University of Classic auditorium afterwards?because of their cultural presentation titled Istorya-Kanta Kinaray-a.
Istorya-Kanta Kinaray-a Cultural Presentation
The cultural business presentation features local musicians like Dante Beriong – the man at the rear of the famous Krruuhhaay! Katahum kang Old-fashioned tourism jingle. It was an evening of good music along with lively cultural dancing performances from the College or university of Antique learners. It really feels good to watch this type of performances from time to time. Watching the present made me realize something, Filipinos never went out of reasons to commemorate. We are indeed the particular happiest people in the world!
